Facebook Training Tutorials : Facebook Page Settings

Facebook Training Tutorial: Exploring Your Facebook Settings Area
The Facebook page settings area is full of little nooks and crannies. And in this tutorial, which is the second in my Facebook training series, I’m going to be shining a light on everything you need to know. I’m going to take you through the setting area at the back end of your Facebook page. If you missed the first in the series you can catch up on Setting Up Your Facebook Page.

The first tab is General. We’re just going to quickly go through these to help you understand what you really know what you need to pay attention to.

Video Summary

Shortcuts

Select this option to pin your page so it is visible, under favourites, on the left-hand side of your personal profile.

Page Visibility

Next one is really obvious. If your page is published or unpublished. If your page is unpublished, it is still there for you to see, but it won’t be seen from anybody else. It is different from deleting your page.

Visitors Posts

Choose whether you want to allow visitors to your Facebook page to post content. A lot of people are concerned about this option because they worry any negative comments will be seen far and wide. That is not the case. It does allow people, if they did have a problem, to feel validated because they can get in touch with you. I would recommend allowing visitors to post so you can deal with any issues and build a relationship with your fans. I also allow people to add photos and videos to the page in case I want to run any competitions.

Reviews

If you have local business you can chose to have reviews on your page. So people can give you a rating out of five stars on what they think about your business. Again, this is something people fear. They get a little bit worried about because they’re concerned they are going to get a negative review. It’s unlikely that you’re going to get a 5-star review from everybody. As long as you get a good balance it is a positive thing to have on your page. If you find at some point, that your reviews get hijacked you can turn them off.

Audience Optimisation for Posts

Audience optimisation for posts determines what section of your audience sees what content. Now this might seem counter intuitive. Surely you want all your audience to see all your content. Narrow down your audience to people who are going to be most likely to comment, like and share. The more interaction you get the more people will see your post. We’re going to talk about how Facebook decides who sees what from you page in a later tutorial. Sign up so you don’t miss that because it’s something that’s so important.

Messages

Are you going to allow people to message you? Why wouldn’t you? Seems crazy not to.

Tagging Ability

If you have a photo of a group of people on your Facebook page they can choose to tag themselves or their friends in it. When someone is tagged they are notified so it helps more people see your content.

Page Location For Frames

This is a new thing that Facebook are doing. They are allowing people to add picture frames to their photos in Facebook. This is still new, I’ve not seen it being take up yet. It will be very interesting to see how it develops.

Country Restrictions

It depends on what your business is to whether you’d like to restrict which countries can see it.

Page Moderation & Profanity Filter

I’m going to talk about page moderation and profanity filter together. It is about the language people use when they are posting and commenting on your page. Profanity filter has three settings, off, medium and strong. I always set it to strong because I don’t want people saying naughty words on my page. In page moderation, you can actually add specific words. If somebody does use one of these restricted words, their content is not deleted it is greyed out. You can see it and the person who has posted it can see it, but nobody else can. You can still speak to them and manage the interaction.

Similar Page Suggestions

This is a bit of a no brainer. Why would I not want people to see my page as a recommendation? So, I’m always going to have that as a yes.

Posts in Multiple Languages

This one is not for me. English is my mother tongue and I focus on English speaking audiences.

Content Distribution

This is for videos. You can choose to allow people to download them or you can choose to prohibit any downloading.
